Flossing 101 Smile Art

Brushing twice a day is fantastic, but we have to share a crucial secret: your toothbrush only reaches about 65% of your tooth surface. That remaining 35%—the areas between your teeth—is a breeding ground for plaque, bacteria, and decay. This is why flossing is non-negotiable!

Think of flossing as a necessary second step to prevent cavities and gum disease from silently taking root where you can’t see them. To get it right, wrap about 18 inches of floss around your middle fingers, leaving an inch or two in between. Gently slide the floss between your teeth, forming a “C” shape against the side of one tooth, and slide it gently below the gum line. Use a clean section of floss for each tooth. It might seem tedious, but dedicating two minutes a day to this habit can save you hours in the dentist’s chair for painful and expensive procedures down the line. Be honest: How often do you truly remember to floss? A) Every day, B) A few times a week, or C) When your next appointment is due!
